as we finish moving cross country, i am starting to go through my stuff at my mom's house which she is also moving out of. all this moving... it's really strange reading old journals and seeing old photos and videos. keep some, throw most away.
p.s. don't my mom's cats look like some alternate reality version of battle cat and white baby?
p.p.s it's videobloggging week 2008. go get 'em!

Ah, wonderful.
What was the device you were moving over the video cassette? Or was it some sort of strange exorcism of ghosts from yesteryear?
And be careful what diaries you throw out. They may come in handy one day. :)
Don't want to seem like i'm 80 or something, but was that thing you were doing to the vhs actually erasing it?
That seems pretty mad to me.
Ryanne, no can see on corporate work pc with IE 6. Maybe Flash version for workers not working and watching video blogs!
i was running a magnet over the tape. but honestly it only works to erase with a really really strong one that plugs into the wall. i popped this tape in a vcr and it played fine! oops. oh well.
What was on the tape that you were trying to erase?
and yes, the cats are the bizzaro versions of yours...
ha!
i was just erasing a scrap footage tape(s). it didn't work anyway. oh well, put it back out into the world and see if anyone finds it...could be a cool remix someday.
Yeah, just as we leave, everybody here is moving too.
I knew that poxy magnet wouldn't work. Videotapes are indestructible!
Great video - very immersive. I love Jay's gesture at the start - seemed very cinematic. I guess he is quite cinematic.
But GOD, it was hard not to pause every page of your diary. It was almost *impossible* not to pause *any* pages of your diary. But I didn't. I'm such a good person.
ha
You should feel free to pause and read the journal!
I wouldn't have shown them on video if I had thought people would do that. I might even read some of them aloud...
How funny. You & Miss B in your diaries this week! excellent stuff. I hope you do read some.
I don't think I have any of mine, but some of the things I wrote were sarcastically comedic and might be worth resurrecting.
The cats! Alt reality cats indeed.
OK now I am feeling guilty for my every 5-years-or-so dumping of my journals.
Encountering artifacts of the past is such a strangely intense thing.
Having moved so many times in my life I can relate to this in a physical way. Going through the things, memories popup, and you know that life moves on. It always does.
I wish I kept my old journals though.
I have to admit: I hit pause and read some excerpts (I knew you wouldn't mind!)
Oh, I hope you didn't throw them away! They really are handy. They serve to remind you of who you *really* were and not just what your biased mind tells you twenty years later.
The cats are hilarious. It's like when they use the same actor on a soap to play a set of twins: they just fluff up their hair a little.
Very nice! I didn't realize you had to be so thorough when erasing vhs tapes.
