Screaming Silently: The Ranch

this is a survey for my own personal uses as well as to share the insanity. i'm starting to feel a little crazy looking at the rust colored wall to wall carpet, the textured walls/ceilings and the fake, walnut, wood panels. not sure jay's dad is feeling the 'let's paint this entire house' vibe that we're putting out. he will...oh he will! sigh.

strong piece, Ryanne.

Untill I saw the american flag on the pole, I identified closely, so closely to it. It was like I was there. Then I saw the flag, and a bunch of associations kicked in, as a reflex, and I questioned myself, my assumptions, and I wonder about the Force of videos like this, showing very down-to-earth issues from IndiViduals around the world. Imagine seeing a video like this from someone, and it was not before near the end that you realized that the video was made by someone in Saudi Arabia.

Mediated humanity. Thank you.

What a view!

[Waits patiently for the next episode.]

Hmm...with a view like that, who really cares what the inside is like.

On second thought...you need to make him get rid of that panelling.

You Californians got no appreciation for wood and wood-inspired products. Makes me want to make crafts, and by crafts I mean sequins on denim.

There's something about it, though, that says Mountain Cabin. There's something cosy about all those textured brown surfaces - somewhere you go to get away from the city and all its sleek lines.
I'm guessing that I haven't convinced you.

OMG! That wood paneling room - that is almost exactly what my mother in law's lower level looked like, but with a field stone fireplace in it. And her carpet? Just like yours. Only yellow. And picture all that furniture with giraffes all over it. I mean, ALL over it. So many that you couldn't sit on the couch or set down your coffee cup. That was our special hell.

With all of the work that the two of you have been doing it's understandable that you will start to see the simple improvements that can be made in the world around you.

Jay's dad will come around, especially since you guys are doing such a good job on your place. It took my dad a wicked long time to start to do their house, but once he started he blew right past us and now he's done and we've still got.... Well way more than we should left to do.

Yes, that's ummm, some challenging decor. There's potential there though, definite potential. And outside looks really gorgeous. I'm jealous.

I'd be screaming right along side you. But that view is wonderful.

Oh God. Oh God. OhGodOhGodOhGOD! Panelling, stucco, carpeting, dated cabinetry and a killer view?

Oh, yes. I share your pain. I know your pain intimately.

(you have a whole other issue with that wallpaper, though. Thankfully all we had to dea with in the kitchen was icky faux half-bricks.)

Take it slow. One change at a time. DOn't go freaking the guy out. Start small.

Maybe not so small. Start with that kitchen.

love the quality of this video. You can feel the textures in everything you're showing.
