jay and i are in the country. rural virginia at his dad's little house on the prairie. the house we're staying was built circa 1978-1982. it got decorated then and stayed that way. we're thinking of maybe spending more time here, living on both coasts. and, as many of you know of me, i need things to be refinished if they are looking shabby. day one- i tackle the tiny details like light switches and outlet covers that are coated in wall paper. oh no you didn't do that! and look what they used to adhere the paper to the plastic! it's like a horror film. tomorrow you get a tour. and my obsessive thoughts on how to improve the space. these things make me feel better about the world.

I did NOT just see pieces of Band-Aides holding that wallpaper in place there!
I cant believe it!
I see sliced up Band-Aids in there?
The 70s will never be forgiven! It got bad for me as a boy when they wallpapered over my cat.
Ryanne...we all a need Ryanne.
Living on both coasts? That's livin' the dream, man. I hope it stays affordable though.
band-aids, yes they were BAND-AIDS!!! oh the horror! at least they were being resourceful!! and they built the whole house by hand, so they get many props from me in many other ways...
Not even on my top ten half ass adhesives list. I guess once you get good at refinishing you wonder what's underneath EVERYTHING.
That was hilarious! I've owned and worked on two houses and other various apartments, and have had to deal with all sorts of crazy makeovers by previous tenants. But none were as insanely clever and as horrific as that! Thanks for giving me a hearty laugh in the middle of a boring day.
A Voice From Out of Your Past
Those are some strong band-aids. Can you tell what brand? Because I have some remodeling to do...
Beautiful on so many levels.
I can get pretty lazy when re-doing house stuff, but not even I would wallpaper over switchplates and use band-aids as tape!
You gotta admit: that's seriously resourceful.
Country livin'? You'll love it.
Band-Aids better than duct tape!
I like the old aesthetic. You send me the crap you don't want. I bet I have a home for it.
Yeah - I did that for a while - living in two places, flying back and forth every few weeks. That was not good for me. No matter where I was, I was always thinking about the other place, thinking about getting on a plane and leaving. That was not good for me. That's why it's so important for me to say California is my home. This is where I am. This is where I stay.
yeah -sooooo freakin tacky.
