american apparel, rock on.


my final cut pro is giving me grief, and iMovie won't compress anything to my satisfaction.
so you get a fully RAW clip of me ranting. FUN!

Good customer service is great! When I find places like that they get my business and I try to tell others to take their business there too. I wish more companies were like this instead of just stepping on consumers like some do. Glad you had a good experience and hope you guys enjoy your new sweatshirt.

This reminds me of my video "rants". I think it's good to give companies credit when they do a good thing and also give them credit when they don't!!

The consumers (should) control the marketplace--"vote" with your wallet.

BTW, LL Bean and EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) are two companies that also stand by their products, no questions asked!

That's really nice of American Apparel to reach out treat you nice. Nice reminder of how vlogging can direct your concern globally. When you get the vlog book out I have to buy one copy from you guys directly.

Hey, I know Annieee always raves about American Apparel also. It's good to hear. Makes me lean toward getting stuff from them. Love this because it shows that consumers do have power and can hold companies accountable. Awesome.

AA clothes do rule, and I have some myself. However, it's worth considering that they have sexually dysfunctional advertising that features young women (while perhaps consensually) provactively and awkwardly posed, presumably at the request of the hyper-sexual CEO, Dov Charney, who--again, while doing some good as well--has some pretty significant issues (like being anti-union) and was sued by several employees for sexual harassment last year. I won't list all his offenses here, but this case is like any, in my opinion: we all have to decide how to prioritize in a globalized society where it is often hard to determine what's really good and bad. Thanks for the thought-provoking post. I'm glad they treated you well.

Good that they have good customer service.

But the "amateur porn" style of photography in their ads and stores with (pantie clad) 'beaver' shots just make them seem creepy and just as explotative as any sweatshop

I like AA.
I was on their site like last week
and all the clothes look freash and solid in color. So pastely or vibrant.
I have to measure my chest before I order online. I tend to shrink my clothes.

plus I have to save a little dough and do a bulk order. I drove into a good will 2 nights ago and picked up a collored dickies shirt for 1.99.
I'll probably be wearing it for the next 5 years.

This is just a commercial, right? Radical, but not very involving. Their store in Seattle's U-District is well designed, though. But the clothes themselves don't seem very distinctive.

i think of it less as a commercial and more of a personal testimonial. i am excited to have had a positive expericence with a company. this i have found to be rare. often the customer is not right and is shamed for having spoken up to complain. and in this case i was actually rewarded. i think companies are going to start listening more to their customers as things like blogging, podcasting and videoblogging become more common. we have a powerful voice that can become viral. for once our opinion matters to them because we have the potential to give them a good or bad reputation. i would do the same if i had an unpleasent experience as well. and that would still be a testimonial and not a commercial. that said, i hope hundreds of people do the same with products they love. esp for smaller companies that have a positive social and/or environmental agenda. i have been thinking about this for a long time. i believe a personal testimonial is a powerful thing and with this kind of distribution, we can make our voices heard and perhaps we can make some change as to what kind of companies profit.

I love that American Apparel is who they are as a business. The other place that has EXCELLENT customer service and will take ANYTHING back no questions asked AND ALL of the employees are VERY, VERY nice is The Conatiner Store.

thanks for the great video. i've worked for AA for almost a month now and loving every day of it. i work as a csr and just wanted to let everyone out there know that we kick ass!

the charges were dropped against dov and the case thrown out by the judge for lack of evidence. :)
