we visited this radical squat-community called can masdeu in barcelona. they have these amazing gardens on this beautiful land over looking barcelona and out to the sea. their story is really interesting- they took over the abandoned building in 2001 by just staging a sit in (ok it was a little more dramatic than that). this footage is sound-less again.

Wow, what a fantastic place. (And I now know what to do with my old bicycle.)
yeah...our wacky life.
My old bike was made into a pedal-powered smoothie maker, but I can see that a pedal-powered washing machine would have more applications! That place looks amazing. Spain really seems to be the place to go for anarcho/radical communities.
i visited my daughter here 5 year ago..it is truly an amazing place and the people take such good care of the land.. it has returned to the community. i hope it can stay as it is.. truly a barcelona treasure.
Can Masdeu is a piece of the best we can be. We visited 4 years ago, willow, Hawina and i. They took us in embraced us, shared their stories, sagas and successes with us. And we walked away culturally richer. They are such a good model of what squatting can be in terms of relations with the local community. They set up community gardens - in a urban area quite pressed for space, they provide workshops on a myriad of topics to high school kids, they grow much of their own food.
